- 51% of MDC students are the first in their family to go to college;
- 44% of MDC students live below the federal poverty line; and
- 84% of MDC students rely on financial assistance to pursue their studies
Until 2015, we did not know any of these facts nor were we aware of the transformational role that MDC has played in the lives of so many of our Miami neighbors.
Lifted by the premise that Opportunity Changes Everything, MDC was built on the belief that the circumstances of your birth should not determine the outcome of your life.
We learned about this remarkable institution when our team was hired to create a strategic marketing and communications plan for Miami Dade College Foundation. This project provided us the opportunity to understand the dreams of the students in focus groups and to learn about the hopes of administrators and faculty via interviews. These insights translated into a plan of action for the MDC Foundation team, led by Mark Cole, who shared, “In a very short time, working with Carla’s guidance, we implemented a marketing and communications plan, a comprehensive communications calendar, consistent messaging, unified digital collateral and publications, social media presence and public relations outreach.”
Our work expanded to include serving as the outsourced marketing team for the Foundation. Since that initial 15-month project, we have facilitated staff and board retreats for the MDC Foundation team.
